The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.
CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.

Position Overview:
The Business Development Operations Manager at Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) plays a crucial role in supporting the Vice President (VP) of Business Development in overseeing business development activities across CHAI, by ensuring operational efficiency, and driving strategic initiatives by identifying and pursuing funding opportunities and partnerships.
Donor Engagement and Management:
- Strategically support the VP of Business Development in identifying and pursuing funding opportunities and partnerships.
- Conduct donor prospect research and prepare briefings and reports for the VP of Business Development and CHAI leaders.
- Review and assist in preparing grant proposals and reports.
- Develop and implement annual and cumulative donor recognition plans, including gift acknowledgment, reporting, and donor relations.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements.
- Maintain and utilize tools such as Iwave and Raiser’s Edge CRM for donations, thank you letters, mailings, and reporting.
- Enhance and coordinate donor stewardship efforts, ensuring timely and transparent tracking and reporting.
Administrative Support for Business Development:
- Manage the creation and dissemination of key publications (reports, agendas, newsletters, solicitation letters, etc.) professionally and accurately.
- Assist in managing schedules, organizing activities, and setting meetings for the VP of Business Development.
- Coordinate meetings and events, including scheduling, travel booking, advertising, and room reservations.
- Compose materials, correspondence, and communications with stakeholders, including donor thank you cards.
Donor Committee Operations:
- Develop and maintain standard "rules of engagement" and charters for donor committees.
- Oversee donor committee membership, ensuring involvement from key stakeholders across CHAI.
- Manage donor committee logistics, including meeting scheduling, action item documentation, and follow-up with members.
- Identify and implement opportunities to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of donor committees.
Financial & People Management:
- Develop a gift and pledge report.
- Liaise with the Finance Department on financial inquiries and expense management.
- Design and implement office policies, establishing standards and procedures, measuring results, and making necessary adjustments.
- Train and manage full-time or short-term staff as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent plus 6 years work experience in business development, operations, or related roles; or Advance Degree or equivalent plus 4 years work experience; or equivalent total work experience.
- Skilled in analyzing and synthesizing large and complex amounts of technical information, with the ability to interpret the same to a diverse audience.
- Experience managing team members with diverse backgrounds and skills
- Demonstrated strong analytical, project management, organizational, leadership, and problem solving skills
- Strong communications skills with demonstrable ability to accomplish goals and favorably influence decision-making processes in a diplomatic and collaborative manner.
- Familiarity with donor management systems and tools (e.g., Salesforce, Riaser’s Edge, DonorPerfect) and mastery of Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise the work of others and provide mentorship and training.
Advantages:
- Prior experience with an international health organization or NGOs is a plus
- Experience working remotely with a decentralized team.
- Experience working in or supporting low- and middle-income countries.
- Professional fluency in additional languages, such as French, Spanish, Hindi, or Swahili.
