To support us with this important responsibility the International Office CEE/CIS/ME is looking for a committed:

Emergency Response Advisor (f/m/d)

Location: Vienna/Austria, Amman/Jordan Skopje/ North Macedonia 

Duration: limited Contract - 12 Months 

 

 

Purpose of the position:

He/she will play a key role in the coordination of the Emergency Response Programs currently planned or underway in SOS Children’s Villages Member Association countries in the CEE/CIS/ME, as well as assisting in the development of emergency and disaster preparedness strategies in the region. He/she reports to the Deputy International Director Region and assists in responding to all emergency-related issues in the region. The position involves planning, monitoring implementation, evaluation and coordination of Emergency Programs in the region. 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The incumbent takes general responsibility for the Coordination, Monitoring & Evaluation of ERactivities in the Region and provides support to Member Associations in the following:

  • Carrying out needs and rapid assessments.
  • Development of program concepts, proposal, budgets and other program related documents.
  • Implementation of Project Management mechanisms and tools to ensure program schedule, KPIs and objectives are met.
  • Ensuring optimal implementation of activities through field missions and provide relevant expertise.
  • Being accountable for monitoring the timely and adequate completion of Emergency Program situation reports by country teams in Member Associations.
  • Management of field security.
  • Management of the Recruitment phase of ER projects.
  • Ensures budgets are aligned with planned activities and agreed timelines and respond to the needs at field level.
  • Additionally, provides professional expertise to the Head of Department, other regional Advisorsand the SOS CVI Global Emergency Response team in the design and follow-up of monitoring and evaluation tools and processes.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in international development, International Relations, Disaster Management or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in the humanitarian field including 2 years of operational experience in emergency response/relief with some exposure to conflict zones; relevant experience in the CEE/CIS/ME region would be a definite advantage.
  • Experience in project management including project planning, budgeting, monitoring andreporting with an NGO or UN agency.
  • Demonstrable expertise in the use of humanitarian standards and principles.
  • An understanding of technical aspects and different sectors of Emergency Program activities.
  • Experience in Child Protection and refugee assistance a strong asset.
  • Good communication and diplomacy skills with a strong ability to persuade and influence client and stakeholder relationships.
  • Willingness and ability for international travel in emergency countries within the region at short notice.
  • Must have excellent knowledge of (written and spoken) English and Arabic a definite asset.
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with local and international stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Motivated self-starter with flexibility and enthusiasm and with highest level of integrity in dealing with employees.
  • A strong team-player work ethic.

This position involves working with an INGO committed to children and human rights and is subject to strict safer recruitment checks.
