Malteser International has been working in Nigeria since 2017. In Northeast Nigeria (Borno, Adamawa & Taraba State), MI is currently active in the WASH, Protection and Food Nutrition Security and Livelihood sector for improving the lives of both the IDP/refugee populations and the host communities. While the WASH activities include NFI distribution, solarization of boreholes, rehabilitation of hand pumps, construction of latrines and hygiene promotion, protection activities focus on Gender-based Violence (GBV) prevention and case management. Malteser International applies a participatory, gender sensitive and inclusive approach.

For its work in Adamawa, Malteser International is looking for a Programme Coordinator who is responsible in providing strong leadership in the overall management of the MI Area Office in Yola. 

The Programme Coordinator is responsible for working closely with and in support of MI core programme and administrative staff. This includes ensuring that there is adequate, sustained, and consistent support to the partners and staff to plan and implement WASH and Protection (GBV) activities and address emerging needs.

Your responsibilities:

  • Jointly work with partners and MI staff to develop an actionable, realistic and detailed inter-agency implementation plan, which is aligned to programme aims, objectives and agreed transitional aid approach.
  • Ensure smooth implementation of program activities in close coordination and robust collaboration with MI Senior Management Team and partners' leadership, following the agreed detailed implementation plans.
  • Working closely with MI and Partners technical teams, ensure key programme deliverables, i.e. reports, and relevant donor guidelines are complied with. 
  • Represent MI and programme interests in Adamawa, in collaboration with project partners. 
  • Ensure MI office in Yola is managed as per expected operational standards, including security and safety management, logistics, office administration, human resources, finances and communication management. 

Your profile:

  • At least 5 years with an INGO in a developing country and/or humanitarian context.
  • Excellent project management, partnership management and coordination experience and skills.
  • Field teams management experience and capacity to work with and lead project teams working with partners to deliver an innovative programme. 
  • Ability to cope in stressful and hostile work environments; willingness to travel to (deep) field locations and conduct partner visits.
  • Knowledge of practical application HDP nexus will be an advantage. 
  • Previous BMZ supported projects experience will be a plus.

What we offer:

  • Start Date: September/October
  • Duty Station: Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria (with frequent travel to field locations and Country Office in Maiduguri)
  • Duration of contract: 12 months (extension very likely)
