Overview: The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Division on NCD, Digital Health, and Capacity Building supports the strengthening of individuals, and institutions (including public, private, and philanthropic organizations) at global, regional, and country levels to ensure that these partners have essential capacities, structures, and systems in place to tackle non-communicable diseases, innovate through the uptake of digital health tools and approaches, and enhance their capacities through more accessible, affordable, and accredited training in a sustained and sustainable manner.

The WHO Academy operates as a specialized global entity within the World Health Organization, working collaboratively with various departments and stakeholders to support the advancement of health education worldwide. It acts as a key driver in shaping the learning strategies and initiatives to address the evolving needs of the global health community. Currently, WHO delivers over 1,400 courses for both internal and external learners through various diverse digital learning platforms. The WHO Academy aims to migrate these courses on its Learning Experience Platform (LXP). WHO, UNITAR, and The Defeat-NCD Partnership will work together to accelerate the efforts of establishing this unified platform, including migration of existing courses and development of new courses.

The Individual Contractor (Functional Testing) will work closely with other partner organisation colleagues who are collaborating on this project, including the Senior Functional Tester, in supporting the WHO Academy by managing the hosted courses on the Academy’s LXP, uploading essential resources onto the platform, and conducting thorough functional testing to ensure the optimal performance of all courses.

General objectives of the contract: Reporting to the UNITAR Project Manager and collaborating with the LXP Lead from the WHO Academy, the Individual Contractor (Functional Testing) is a key member of the “WHO Academy course mobilisation programme: Migration and co-production of courses (WHOA: MCC)” who will be responsible for uploading the relevant course materials on the platform and conducting functional testing to ensure the courses function as desired on the platform.

Responsibilities/description of professional services: 

  • Undertake the day-to-day operations of the hosted courses on the LXP.
  • Manage course enrollments and permissions for hosted courses, when required.
  • Upload, organize, and maintain learning resources on the LXP.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers to ensure accurate and timely resource uploads.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive functional testing plans for all hosted courses on the platform.
  • Identify and report any technical issues, ensuring prompt resolution.
  • Conduct regular assessments to ensure the overall functionality and user experience of the LXP.

Functional Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of learning management systems, preferably experience with Open EdX.
  • Proficient in functional testing practices and tools.
  • Familiarity with healthcare or educational content is a plus.
Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in functional testing, including testing of online courses or platforms.
  • Experience in LMS administration or related roles.
Education level

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Desirable

  • Certification in LMS administration.
Language skill

Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French and/ or Spanish is an asset, but not a requirement.
