Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Secretariat and in consultation with relevant international organizations, the consultant is expected to: 1. Develop a draft report on the contributions of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions to the implementation of the Kumming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework; 2. Support the consultations and validation process of the report; 3. Provide inputs for the development of awareness raising materials on the work under the chemicals and waste agenda and the linkages to biodiversity loss.
Qualifications/special skills
An advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in science, environment, or related discipline or similar field is required. A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in the field of chemicals and/or waste management is required; Knowledge of the Stockholm Convention, its provisions and processes under the Convention is required; Experience in analyzing environmental data and developing publications of a technical nature within the context of international organizations is required. Expert Knowledge of the Convention on Biological Diversity and experience working on biodiversity related multilateral environmental agreements is desirable.
Languages
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required, including strong drafting, and writing skills. Spanish and/or French will be an asset.
