The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

The exciting position is at the heart of ICRC’s digital transformation, led by the Support and Digital Transformation Department (SDT). Teaming with the SDT Senior Change Advisor, you will support actively the development of the department’s change advisory practice, fostering a collaborative culture of inclusive engagement that strives for customer / user-centricity.

The Change Officer is an enabler to ensure that initiatives are developed in consultation with impacted stakeholders/groups and that their adoption and usage are optimum – In other words, the story makes sense for the end-user and that s/he has the desire to integrate it. As such, the Change Officer supports change brought about by either an individual project or organizational transformation that is likely to have an effect at multiple levels within a specific functional area. S/he ensures that necessary action is taken to provide appropriate support to all impacted staff while they are adapting to the change. S/he will work under the management of the SDT Senior Change Adviser and will collaborate closely with the transformation lead(s), and Project Manager(s).

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Support the Senior Change Advisor based at headquarters, in Geneva, Switzerland, to:
  • Build the change management best practice, including templates, sequenced approaches, a communication framework for the department, among other tasks.
  • Support in enriching and prioritizing the backlog of change needs.
  • Support or facilitate direct workshops and dissemination sessions with large audiences of stakeholders across the organization, including gathering and structuring feedback.

 

Work directly on projects to:

  • Support the enactment of specific change management initiatives, such as collaborating with current change advisors embedded in projects to develop engagement plans, communication materials, and other change artifacts.
  • Support the transformation lead(s) in defining the change-management strategy, developing change-management plans, and coordinating their implementations with all relevant stakeholders (internally and externally). This includes tracking progress, recommending optimized sequencing and adequate staffing for successful deployment, escalate issues and risks, facilitate information-sharing, ensure that lessons learned are recorded and taken into account appropriately in future initiatives.

Relationships

  • Internally, interacts with some or all of the following groups: transformation lead(s) and project team, Project Management Office, métier (senior) leadership and all métier teams affected by the change, and staff responsible for developing and implementing solutions from the project or transformation.
  • Externally, interacts with suppliers and service providers.

Certifications / Education required

  • University degree or equivalent; master’s degree an asset.
  • Change management training and certification desirable.
  • Project management training and certification desirable.
  • Excellent command of English is a must.
  • Good command of French is a strong asset
  • Good command of other languages such as Spanish is an asset
  • Computer proficiency.

Professional Experience required

  • Experience working on change initiatives, including projects and programs, dissemination campaigns, and internal/external communication.
  • Track record in coordinating, planning and communicating with senior management teams.
  • Project-management experience is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Outstanding presentation and engagement skills – at ease with engaging large audiences.
  • A taste for details.
  • Highly motivated with a continuous self-improvement mindset.
