Early Call for Expressions of Interest: 2025 Legal Associate Program

Are you a talented legal professional with a passion for international development? The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is excited to announce an early call for expressions of interest for our 2025 Legal Associate Program (LAP). This prestigious two-year rotational program is designed to develop a pool of in-house lawyers to meet AIIB’s legal needs for both private and public sector operations while providing young lawyers with intensive legal training to be able to support a multilateral development bank and its public and private sector infrastructure projects.

About the Legal Associate Program

AIIB’s Legal Associate Program offers a unique opportunity for young legal professionals to:

  • Develop Expertise: Engage in intensive training (on-the-job and in-classroom) on the fundamentals of lawyering at AIIB.
  • Gain Diverse Experience: Rotate through different units within the Legal Department (LEG) and participate in field missions to assist senior lawyers.
  • Contribute to Operations: Work on AIIB’s legal operational tasks, including engagement with clients and mitigating legal risks in AIIB-financed operations.
  • Receive Comprehensive Training: Attend selected training programs on operational themes organized by the Legal Department and Human Resources Department.

Learning and Exposure

Legal Associates at AIIB can expect a comprehensive learning experience, including:

  • Hands-On Work: Contribute to LEG’s work program, gaining practical experience in legal operational tasks.
  • Intensive Training: Participate in training on AIIB’s policies, products, and operations to ensure effective operational solutions.
  • Networking Opportunities: Build networks and knowledge across AIIB’s diverse departments.

Eligibility

Applicants must have excellent professional qualifications while possessing strong communication, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills. The program is open to candidates of any citizenship.

  • Advanced law degree (Master’s/LLM/JD) from a recognized educational institution.
  • Minimum of two years of full-time, relevant legal professional experience.
  • Admission to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Passion for development and commitment to AIIB’s mission.

Competencies:

  • Professional independence and maturity, with discretion and sensitivity for multicultural settings.
  • Strong legal knowledge and ability to draft legal documents with limited supervision.
  • Ability to identify and critically analyze legal issues and provide solutions.
  • Teamwork skills and strong communication abilities to present information clearly and concisely.
