Duties and Responsibilities
The Staffing, Diversity and Outreach Section, Strategic Talent Management Service, Global Strategy and Policy Division of the Office of Human Resources/DMSPC seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated Intern to join our team. The prospective intern must have a strong interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly in promoting geographical diversity; excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills; effective communication and interpersonal skills; capable of working collaboratively in a team environment; ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously with attention to detail and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). The intern will support the workstream responsible for coordinating efforts to increase geographical representation in the UN Secretariat by developing partnerships with Member States, undertaking targeted talent outreach campaigns to draw the broadest pool of candidates for Secretariat positions, and focusing on attracting candidates from unrepresented and underrepresented Member States. The team develops innovative talent outreach initiatives to attract and retain a diverse workforce in the Organization. The workstream also supports the implementation of purposeful partnership arrangements with Member States. The intern will report to the Human Resources Officer. Responsibilities: Under the supervision of team leaders, the intern will: • Assist in the coordination of various programmes/projects planning and preparation. • Provide assistance in support of planning and implementation of a variety of activities, typically, involving multiple stakeholders. • Assist in the research and analysis of geographical diversity trends and labor market within unrepresented and underrepresented Member States. • Contribute to the development of strategies and programmes aimed at increasing geographical representation among the workforce. • Assists in the monitoring and evaluation of programmes/projects; updates, tracks and analyses data related to programmes/projects. • Assist with researching, compiling and analyzing information/data on specific programmes/projects and related topics on improving geographical diversity and representation. • Assist with drafting of correspondence and communications related to all aspects of programme/activities and other related matters. • Coordinate with internal and external partners to organize diversity-focused events and initiatives; participate in meetings and workshops related to diversity and inclusion. • Liaise with team to organize online events/webinars hosted on platforms such as MS Teams/Zoom to ensure such events have maximum impact. • Assist in creating and distributing internal communications related to diversity and inclusion efforts; assists with visualizations and updating information material or brochures. • Draft programme outlines/summaries/minutes of meetings and produces final draft. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in public information, communications, social science or related field, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme in (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants should have excellent knowledge of MS Office and other standard software applications, such as MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and MS Teams, Zoom platform etc. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
