Scope: 
The intake specialist will serve as the central point of contact for all new walk-in clients and most returning clients to the IRC. This position involves working directly with clients in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professional standards and best practices with timely enrollment, referrals to appropriate services and client communication. The intake specialist may also conduct outreach to eligible populations and communities. 
Reports to: this position reports to the economic empowerment program manager.  
Terms: this is a full-time limited term role for one year, with the possibility of extension or promotion to regular depending on funding. The position is eligible for full benefits. 
Major Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
  • Conduct eligibility screenings for new walk-in and other returning clients requesting services from IRC. This includes refugees, asylees, parolees, SIVs, certified and pre-certified victims of trafficking, asylum seekers and other individuals seeking IRC services.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and eligibility criteria on all programs offered by the IRC in Boise. 
  • Refer eligible clients to appropriate IRC programs using the identified program processes.
  • Refer ineligible clients to community resources such as local public benefits, shelters, food banks, crisis centers, and others as applicable.
  • Collaborate effectively with coworkers and partner organizations. Build and maintain relationships with area service providers for the benefit of clients.
  • Detail each client interaction in accordance with program requirements. Create new client records and input client information in database(s) and assist with tracking and reporting as needed.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate and comprehensive record of all walk-in clients. Contribute to reporting for walk-in client data but not limited to nationalities, age and gender demographics, immigration status, programs of enrollment and referrals to community resources.
  • Comply with agency policies, protocol and case management best practices.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings and workshops as requested and coordinated by the IRC. 
  • May conduct outreach to eligible populations, in coordination with program leads. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a field in the humanities, social sciences, or social work strongly preferred
Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant professional experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations preferred. Experience with intake assessments, case management or legal services will be an advantage. 
Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:
  • Knowledge of and interest to continue learning about public assistance, legal services and other community resources. 
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment and with individuals who are Limited English Proficient (LEP). Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by IRC’s clients is desired; including Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Kinyarwanda, Pashto, Swahili and Spanish.
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail required. 
  • Interest and ability to contribute both independently and as a key team member.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based applications (i.e. Google forms, Box, ETO, databases). 
Working Environment: 
  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • Will require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
