In Guinea, WFP has been active since 1964, addressing immediate food needs during crises and working in partnership with the Government to promote sustainable food systems and improve access to education and nutrition. We are currently seeking to fill an internship position under the WFP Country Director's Office of the Management Team. The position will be based at our head office in Conakry, Guinea. The Internship will be for an initial period of 3 months or more starting from May.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled and have attended University courses in the last 12 months inclusive of having completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or have recently graduated in the last 6 months with a Major in public administration, development, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications, Political Science, Social Science, Management, or other relevant fields.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point). Proficiency in Excel and infographic software is essential.
  • Fluent in English
  • French language skills are an asset.

JOB PURPOSE

The selected candidate will be assisting the WFP Country Director (CD) with the following key duties:

Play a crucial role in analyzing various aspects of our operations, from cost and budget to resource management and performance metrics. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects and gain hands-on experience in a dynamic organizational setting.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Cost Analysis: Perform detailed cost analyses, including examination of contributions, expenditures, and financial forecasting, to ensure fiscal responsibility and alert systems for potential shortfalls.
  2. Budget Review: Support the systematic review of budgets across various departments, identifying discrepancies and areas for optimization.
  3. Resource Management/Pipeline: Analyze current resource allocation and management practices, suggesting improvements for optimal utilization.
  4. Data Analysis: Conduct data gathering and analyses related to performance, including beneficiary numbers, performance indicators, and other relevant metrics from the performance and program databases.
  5. Time Analysis - Delivery: Evaluate project and activity timelines to identify bottlenecks and recommend strategies for improved delivery times.
  6. Dashboard Development: Contribute to the development and maintenance of a dashboard for informed decision-making, ensuring it provides real-time, accessible data for strategic analysis.
  7. Promotion of Management Principles: Advocate for Management by Objectives (MBO) and Result Based Management (RBM), providing relevant guidance and training to teams.
  8. Project Participation: Engage in various projects and tasks, collaborating closely with experienced project managers to support CO objectives.
  9. Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as required, always aiming to advance WFP’s mission and operational goals.

Supervision:


Under the direct supervision of the Country Director, the intern will receive hands-on technical supervision, skill development, and mentoring. This includes performance planning, follow-ups, and reviews, as well as learning and development discussions.


Training Components and Learning Elements:


Interns will have access to WFP's WeLearn platform, offering a wide range of learning opportunities. Depending on availability, participation in one full day orientation session, WFP workshops, seminars, and field missions may be offered. By the end of the assignment, the intern is expected to enhance their performance management skills, data analysis capabilities, understanding of WFP field operations, infographic drafting skills, and interpersonal skills required for working in a dynamic and multicultural environment.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

Strong analytical skills, Independent and teamwork capabilities, excellent problem-solving skills, positive attitude, and a keen interest in international humanitarian development. Proficiency in Excel and infographic software is essential.

 

Strong written and verbal communication skills, quick learning and adaptation to UN/WFP processes, analytical and interpretative skills, and the ability to propose solutions.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment. 
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • Depending on the duty station of assignment, WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
