Job Purpose

Under the minimal supervision of Scientist, facilitate the planning, designing, and implementation of experiments with particular attention to instrumentations, sensors, equipment for crop and environmental monitoring including but not limited to equipment testing, maintenance, data gathering, and management, crop management, and attend to all needed quality assurance requirements and specific project goals and research objectives of the Greenhouse Gas Measurements and Environment Modelling team. Consolidate, evaluate and analyze research data gathered from the project trials and contribute to manuscript for reports/publications as well as presentations/posters for national and international conferences. Supervise, coach and guide scholars, OJTs, researchers and research technicians. Coordinate and prepare training sessions for a variety of people.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the planning, designing and implementation of all the experiments, including but not limited to equipment testing, maintenance, data gathering, and management, crop management
  • Contribute to the development of research proposals including review of related literature, selection of adequate research tools and equipment, verification of suggested methodologies and establishment of parameters
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, publications, and presentations
  • Verify suggested methodologies and establish parameters
  • Assist in the identification of support staff and assign tasks/responsibilities
  • Provide assistance and guidelines/information to scholars and collaborators considering the implementation of experiment(s) including the logistics
  • Assign, monitor and evaluate research activities/tasks performed by Researchers, Research Technicians and contract workers; provide guidance when necessary
  • Maintain smooth conduct of experiment(s) by troubleshooting and fostering a productive teamwork environment
  • Coordinate with required IRRI services and supplies to ensure smooth implementation of experiments
  • Manage the implementation of experiments and other research studies related to the project
  • Maintain accurate data recording and update database for efficient storage and retrieval of information
  • Consolidate, evaluate and analyze research data gathered from the project trials
  • Assist in the interpretation of results and drafting conclusions to enable necessary decisions
  • Summarize research findings and draft figures and tables for publication in referred journals
  • Contribute to the writing of manuscripts for reports/publications as well as presentations/posters for national and international conferences
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating research activities/tasks performed by researchers, research technicians and contract workers; provide guidance when necessary. Contribute to the professional development of researchers/research Technicians and assist students and trainees.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Administer effective coordination and preparations of trainings by ensuring that the training materials, logistical arrangements and resource persons are appropriate to the defined objectives
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Chemistry, Environment or other related studies with 4 years of relevant work experience in rice research
  • Master of Science degree is an advantage but not required
