Job Purpose: This post will be based in the Livelihood Resilience Unit and reporting to the head of unit. The incumbent will be supporting the coordination of efforts that seek to accelerate and scale-up livelihood and resilience building programming through environmental restoration and disaster risk reduction. In addition, this position will support integrating environmental considerations and disaster risk reduction measures into the broader framework of the strategy. The incumbent will also   support and contribute with technical inputs to the planning, designing, and implementation of environmental restoration and disaster risk reduction initiative at field level.

 

Key Responsibilities (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):

•    Contribute to the technical aspects and implementation of environmental restoration and disaster risk reduction programming at the country office level.
•    Support FOs and CPs in the design of programmes and strategies and integrating environmental considerations and disaster risk reduction measures in support of livelihoods, and resilience building.
•    Support resource mobilization efforts related to livelihoods, resilience building and environmental restoration and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).
•    Support the promotion of linkages with and mainstreaming of principles related to social protection, nutrition, gender, and conflict-sensitive programming throughout the design, planning and implementation of projects related to environmental restoration and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).. 
•    Support country level programme, policy, and research initiatives related to resilience, livelihoods, and environmental restoration and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)..
•    Undertake technical assistance missions to support field level initiatives and implementation of WFP tools and guidance in the related areas. 
•    Support learning and knowledge sharing through the documentation of good practice, lessons learned and success stories, and the development of relevant guidance materials.   
•    contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reporting on programs and activities, to support the development of policy briefs, advocacy and communication materials.  


STANDARD MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education: Advanced University degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or other field relevant to international development assistance, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

Experience: One (1) or more years of postgraduate professional experience (after completion of Advanced University degree) or, three (3) years or more after completion of First University degree in implementing programmes, livelihoods, resilience building and environmental restoration and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic languages. 

 

Required Skills:

•    Understanding of donor policies, strategies, and programmes priorities in relation to resilience building, livelihood, and environmental restoration and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).
•    Knowledge of major humanitarian and development challenges and issues, specifically strategies and/or policies national, governorate and district level for building resilience and developing livelihoods through environmental restoration and DRR. 
•    Strong teamwork, partnership, and coordination capacities.
•    Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. 
•    Experience in the development of interagency networks, partnerships, strategies, and communications material

 

Desired Skills: 

•    Experience in providing input into policy discussion and decisions and strategy development would be an added value.
