We are seeking a consultant to support the development of Safe Online communities of practice. This role involves maintaining and creating communication mechanisms, providing progress updates, organizing virtual and in-person meetings, and sharing knowledge and resources. The consultant will design and implement strategies to develop resources, share best practices, and identify learning opportunities, all to enhance the strategic objectives of the Research & Data pillar, particularly the Data for Change Initiative and the Tech Coalition Safe Online Research Fund.

Safe Online, in close partnership with our partners and grantees, is the only global fund dedicated to making the internet safe for children through investing in strengthening systems, generating data and evidence on online trends and threats, and supporting innovative tech solutions that can be scaled. Safe Online brings online child sexual exploitation and abuse to the forefront of policy discussion; convenes and connects organizations across sectors to strengthen collaborative efforts; and works with governments, industry, public and key actors to prioritize online child safety in their policies, budgets and business practices. How can you make a difference? 

ASSIGNMENTThe main objective for this consultancy is to support the development of key Safe Online communities of practice including through maintaining existing and creating new mechanisms for communications and knowledge sharing among key stakeholders.

The consultant will be responsible for supporting ongoing communication, including progress updates, virtual and in person meetings and convenings, as well as generation and sharing of knowledge and resources. The consultant will help design and implement mechanisms to develop creative, accessible resources, share best practices and identify learning opportunities to enhance the strategic objectives of the Research & Data pillar of work – namely the Data for Change Initiative and the Tech Coalition Safe Online Research Fund – and to increasingly find alignments and synergies across the efforts of different communities of practice.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

• A university degree in one of the following fields is required: Organizational Psychology, Information Technology, Communications, Design, International Studies, Child Protection, Education, Data Science, Engineering, Technology Policy, or a related field.
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in a role with some combination of administrative, organizational, leadership, or communications responsibilities.
• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have:

• Ability to work on demand, multi-task and deliver ahead of tight deadlines
• Experience with coordinating multistakeholder groups, particularly previous experience working with tech industry audiences a strong asset.
• Research experience a strong asset.
• Experience working with the UN system and familiarity working on women and children’s issues, particularly child protection and ending violence against children an asset.
• Exceptional communications and interpersonal skills.
• Solid IT and social media skills, including the ability to set up and run virtual meetings and groups.
• Strong organizational ability, and a knack for managing competing priorities and multiple processes.
• Excellent writing and editing skills. Ability to communicate with design teams to generate visual assets.
• Excellent track record of producing high quality products suitable for international audiences.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
