Background:

 

The post is located in the Management team of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (Mission) Human Dimension Department (HDD).  The main objective of the HDD is to support the Mission’s overall mandate in helping to secure lasting peace in the country. To this end, the HDD engages in various programmes and initiatives designed to promote human rights, education reform, rule of law, trust-building, good governance and democratic values.    

The HDD consists of Head Office (HO) staff and personnel located across nine Field Offices (FO) throughout the country. It features four distinct but nonetheless interconnected programmatic sections and one programmatic support section which are overseen by the Head and Deputy Head of the Department (HDD Management). The role of HDD Management encompasses directing these four sections, including both Unified Budget (UB) and Extra-budgetary (ExB) projects, to ensure a harmonized and complementary approach. This strategy leverages the strengths and overlaps between team for maximum progress towards achievement of the Department’s objectives. HDD Management also bears responsibility for reporting to the Head and Deputy Head of Mission, implementing the strategic objectives, administering the Department’s human resources, ensuring co-ordination between the Department and others including the Department for Security Cooperation and the Policy and Planning Section, ensuring adequate co-ordination and support from the Fund Administration Unit, managing relations with key national interlocutors and partners in the International Community (IC), fundraising, and managing ExB donor relationships.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Head, Human Dimension Department and overall supervision of the Head, Human Dimension Department, the successful candidate will be tasked with the following duties:

1. Monitoring, compiling and analysing information on human dimension issues of interest to the Mission;

2. Providing assistance with the drafting, proofreading, and editing of various programmatic/analytical documents including briefing packages, talking points, speeches, letters, presentations, publications, and other relevant materials;

3. Collecting, consolidating, and harmonizing inputs obtained from relevant programmatic focal points to produce regular, internal, and external reports;

4. Maintaining a tracking system for cleared documents, following-up on deadlines and timely submission of programmatic inputs, and handling the filing of relevant documents;

5. Attending internal and external meetings and taking notes as required;

6. Drafting specific research and spot reports;

7. Performing other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications:

 

  • You should be under the age of 30 on the date of the deadline of this vacancy notice/requisition;
  • You should be in your final year of higher education at graduate or postgraduate level or within two years after graduation by the deadline of the vacancy notice/requisition;
  • Your educational background should be in a field relevant to the OSCE’s mandate;
  • Strong analytical, research, and drafting skills;
  • Professional fluency in English and in the local languages with excellent communication (both oral and written) skills;
  • Computer literate with practical experience using Microsoft applications;
  • Ability to adeptly tailor language, tone, style, and format for diverse audiences and purposes;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from different national and cultural backgrounds, whilst maintaining impartiality and objectivity.

 

 

Remuneration Package:

 

The OSCE is not in a position to pay any remuneration or cover any expenses incurred by the intern during his/her stay in Sarajevo nor reimburse travel expenses. However, interns selected who are non-residents of Sarajevo may be eligible for some compensation towards their living costs in Sarajevo. 

The internship lasts up to six (6) months for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and up to three (3) months for international applicants.

Internships do not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE. 

The selected intern shall provide the OSCE with evidence that he/she has health insurance coverage which is valid for Bosnia and Herzegovina, otherwise he/she shall be obliged to join the OSCE group health insurance scheme for the period of their internship, at their own expense. The OSCE will cover life and disability insurance for the duration of internship.
