Role Overview

We're looking for a committed full-time organiser / campaigner to join our ‘creative resistance’ to stop the rise of right-wing extremism in Germany ahead of the European elections, from March until June 15. 

We need all hands on deck to break the wave of extremists surging across the continent, and are looking for dedicated, passionate, creative individuals to join our team for the 2024 EU elections and make sure that #NeverAgain isn’t just a slogan, but a promise.

The ideal candidate will have great expertise in organising people and events, offline and online, from media stunts to campaigns, collaborating with partner organisations, networking, and engaging with citizen directly.

 This position is a unique opportunity to shape Europe's future and keep the voices of hatred and division at bay.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring election cycles and processes in Germany and identifying opportunities for mobilisations
• Coordinating communities, influencers and individuals.
• Working with grassroots organisations and civil society to coordinate efforts. 
• Leading the planning and execution of both physical and digital campaigns, including physical. actions and stunts with short turnaround and media engagement.
• Supporting the development of creative tactics and messages.
• Drafting Avaaz member emails and other communications.
• Assisting Campaign Directors in organising campaign actions and logistics, from ad buys to public petition deliveries.
• Public speaking in media and on social media.
• Publishing and editing online content. 
• Correspondence and consultation (e.g. polling) with members.

Qualifications

This is a challenging role that requires motivation, reliability, flexibility, good judgement, initiative and an ability to deliver results. The core competencies which any successful candidate will display are:

• Strong understanding and experience of how public elections campaigns function.
• Strong understanding of local culture, politics and media/social media landscape.
• Professionalism, efficiency and results-oriented delivery on short timelines.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Passion and commitment to global justice, citizen empowerment and social change.
• Strong teamwork skills, comfortable in a highly collaborative team culture and a hierarchical team structure.
• Enthusiasm for a wide range of global issues, and a readiness to move swiftly between them, while being able to rapidly focus in on the details of each.
• Strong strategic thinking and campaign planning skills.
• Creativity for campaign tactics and strategies.
• Proficient in Google Suite and online communication systems (Slack, Zoom, etc).
• Excellent written and verbal skills in German - high proficiency in English is a plus.

Location

Avaaz is a virtual organisation, with most of our work done online. This position will be based in Germany, ideally in Berlin.

Compensation

Salary varies with location and experience, and is highly competitive with leading international nongovernmental organisations. The monthly compensation for this position ranges from 4.800 - 7.000 EURO.
