Contract Duration

Interns are required to work full time for a period of six months (to be agreed to prior to commencement).

The Opportunity

The International Criminal Court (ICC) investigates and, where warranted, tries individual charges with the gravest crimes of concerns to the international community: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crime of aggression. The Court is participating in the global fight to end impunity, and through the international criminal justice, the Court aims to hold those responsible accountable for their crimes and to help prevent the crimes from happening again. You can contribute to this cause by joining the ICC.

Organisational Context

The General Services Section (GSS) organisationally belongs to the Division of Management Services in the Registry. The GSS consists of four units; the Facilities Management Unit (FMU); the Transport and Logistics Unit (TLU), the Travel Unit (TU) and the Procurement Unit (PU).

The Facilities Management Unit is in charge of the operation and management of the ICC headquarter premises. The FMU provides management, supervision and coordination of contracts with external FM service providers for hard and soft services (e.g. quality catering, cleaning, , office moves, maintenance and utilities). FMU manages the in-house support services (FMU services desk, meeting room arrangements), management of the conference facilities and provision of conference support services at the ICC HQ. FMU also provides preventive and corrective services supervision at the ICC HQ including climate, lightening, security and other building management systems. FMU also provides facility management support services to the Court’s Country Offices.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of a Facilities Management Officer, the intern will perform the following duties:

  • Assist in space planning and allocation of office space to optimize functionality.

  • Assist in coordinating routine maintenance tasks and promptly addressing facility-related issues.

  • Assist in planning and coordinating internal moves and changes within the organization

  • Support in managing relationships with facility service vendors.

  • Utilize facility management software (Planon) to create and manage work orders, track facility requests, and generate reports.

  • Contribute to planning and executing events, coordinating logistics such as room setup and catering.

  • Support sustainability initiatives and explore opportunities to reduce energy consumption and waste.

  • Attend facility management team meetings and contribute ideas.

  • Assist with other duties as required.

Essential Qualifications

Education:

All Candidates must have a degree or be in the final stages of a relevant study at a recognised educational institution. Candidates are expected to have a very good record of academic performance. Candidates with Facilities Management, Business Administration, or related field degrees are strongly encouraged to apply. Other academic qualifications are welcome. 

Experience:

Internship placements focus on candidates in the early stages of their professional careers therefore; practical experience is not an essential prerequisite for selection. However, practical experience that is relevant to the work of the Court may be considered an asset, although it may not exceed 3 (three) years.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to adapt to multicultural and multilingual working environments.

  • Possesses strong teamwork skills (listens, consults and communicates proactively).

  • Has acquired a good standard of computer skills (including Microsoft Office applications).


Knowledge of Languages:

Proficiency in the two working languages of the Court, French and English, is required. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

Please note that internship and visiting professional placements at the ICC are unfunded. The ICC is not able to provide participants in the Internship and Visiting Professional Programme with any remuneration, nor is it possible to provide reimbursement for expenses incurred prior, during or after the internship or visiting professional placement.
