The USA is UNHCR's largest donor. To build future capacity, the USA is now investing in young professionals by sponsoring several Junior Professional Officers (JPO) positions. A JPO position is an international professional role targeting young professional at the age of 25-35 years. Historically, the JPO program is a unique chance for young talents to get training and exposure to UNHCR's humanitarian work either in field assignment or at headquarters and hence kickstart their UN career.

These vacancies are opened in the context of the Junior Professional Officer (JPO) scheme sponsored by the Government of the USA and is addressed exclusively to candidates WITH THE US NATIONALITY.

How long is the contract and what is the status of a JPO contract?

JPOs are offered one-year fixed-term contracts (FTA). Subject to satisfactory performance the contract is renewed for a second year (two or three years is the usual length of assignment). As a JPO you are in most cases recruited at P2 level, Step 1, which means junior international staff.
