The HALO Trust is the world’s largest and oldest international humanitarian mine action charity. The HALO Trust's mission is to save lives and restore livelihoods for those affected by conflict. HALO is known for its work to clear landmines and the disposal of other explosive hazards such as bombs, rockets, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). HALO was established in Afghanistan in 1988 and now employs over 9,000 staff across 26 countries and territories.

In their work to make people and places safe, they embed themselves in local communities to build local capacity, they work closely with local and national governments, as well as aid and development partners, and ultimately prepare the way for development and long term stability.

In 2017, HALO launched a unique project in Angola, to train and employ all-female demining teams, creating a space for women’s empowerment whilst clearing landmines and making land safe. Hear from Liv on joining The HALO Trust as an International Field Officer

"HALO is committed to making the world a safe place. We clear mines to stop people from being killed and wounded. We restore land for farming and other livelihoods and we restore confidence in countries devastated by war. I am proud of HALO's men and women, many of whom come from villages and towns living with landmines, who work every day in pursuit of this goal."
- James Cowan, CEO, HALO
