You carefully search the web for interesting vacancies and get excited about opportunities you can only dream of getting. You also follow development role models on LinkedIn and maybe listen to the Impactpool podcast, taking in the stories of those doing exactly what you want to do, living the life you want to live.

However, the more you read and listen, the wider the gap seems to grow between your professional profile and that of these accomplished professionals and even more so, the specific, non-negotiable requirements listed in the job advertisements.

You sigh and close your browser, feeling somewhat deflated. Still, you can’t quite let go of the thought of one day working in the international development field. It’s what you want! The big question is how to get from where you are, to there?
